What are the ECERS & ITERS? The Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), School Age Care Environmental Rating Scale (SACERS), and Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) are tools used to assess your program's classroom environments. Both the ECERS and ITERS are also used as measurement tools in QRIS at levels 2, 3, and 4.
The Quality Enhancement Team is available to provide both informational trainings and classroom observations for your program.
At this time we are only able to provide observations for Level 2 of the QRIS System.
If you would like further information ECERS & ITERS observations you may also contact the Department of Early Care and Education by clicking here.
For information on Level 2 observations please contact: Kimm Quinlan Program Coordinator 413-612-0206 or 413-736-3900 Ext. 217 KQuinlan@valleyopp.com
What is the CLASS Tool?
The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) is an observational tool that provides a common lens and language focused on what matters, the classroom interactions that boost student learning.
Data from CLASS observations are used to support teachers unique professional development needs and set school-wide goals.
Based on research from the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education and studied in thousands of classrooms nationwide, the CLASS tool:
Focuses on effective teaching
Helps teachers recognize and understand the power of their interactions with students
Aligns with professional development tools
Works across age levels and subjects
The CLASS tool works. CLASS-based professional development tools increase teacher effectiveness. Students in classrooms with higher CLASS scores achieve at higher levels than their peers in classrooms with lower CLASS scores.
The CLASS observation tool is used in Levels 2,3, and 4 of the QRIS.
At PET we have staff who are CLASS reliable raters.
