Infants and Toddlers start learning through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) through responsive caring and everyday experiences (Barbre, 2017). Participants will develop and implement hands-on STEM activities and build an I/T curriculum to bring back to their programs. Please join me in taking Baby Steps to STEM for Infants and Toddlers.

This training is designed to help you think deeply about how to build effective, positive partnerships / relationships with families in your programs. We will examine what you are already doing, and using self-reflection and collaboration, think of ways to enhance these methods. We will have a particular focus on what kind of information can be shared as a tool for building trust and collaboration. Beginning with this concept we will move into ways of communicating and involving families in the classroom. Come join us for an interactive training that will help stimulate your family relationships.

What does your Preschool classroom environment communicate about yourself and the children? Do you enjoy being in your space? How do children and families react to the classroom? Utilizing Debbie Curtis and Margie Carter’s book, Designs for Living and Learning: Transforming Early Childhood Environments, as our inspiration, we will use the day to reflect on the strengths of your center based classroom and work through the struggles you may have encountered. Join us for an interactive, hands-on day examining the ins and outs of classroom environments. We’ll explore the connection between behavior and a child’s environment, and how to make adaptations to be inclusive of children with varying abilities and cultural backgrounds. We will encourage you to draw on your own sense of design, comfort, and aesthetics while being mindful of tight budgets and limited resources. Let’s create captivating environments that nurture children, families, and staff while supporting children’s learning!

The Developing Healthy Boys training is for adults of all genders, and will focus on male gender socialization and the strategies and skills for promoting the development of compassionate, non-violent and equitable boys, and the men they become. This highly participatory training, uses personal reflection, partner dialogues, small and large group discussion, and a hands-on children’s book activity to promote the ability of participants to: Examine the process of male socialization, including its impacts on children, adults, families and communities Reflect on ways that male socialization contributes to cycles of trauma, violence, racism and homophobia Create a learning environment, which promotes healthy gender development for boys, and by extension - all children

Visuals aids (or pictures) are a useful tool for helping all children, but are especially valuable for children who have challenges with listening and attending, processing sequenced information, transitioning through daily routines, or children with challenging behavior. Participants will learn why visual aids benefit learning, and will explore the many possible applications for visual aids in an early education and care program.
